Joining the Navy at 18 to me seemed ideal,I was newly qualified and after seeing an ad in the newspaper I went into town the following day to see what if anything I could offer to them.
I sst and listened intently to the Master Sergeant as he explained that as I was qualified I would be directly fast tracked though training and put to sea as soon as I was ready.
