The LAFA chronicles – some explanations

These chronicles are stories. They never happened. Nor should many of the things depicted happen in real life. Except the empowerment theme.

Long ago and far away, a small town, surrounding villages fields and forests lay in the path of every invader, who usually paused long enough to rape all the women and some of the men. Eventually the people threw out their weak hereditary rulers, built walls of stone, worshipped a new god and agreed to rule by the most able, strong and worthy Overlord, elected by Guardians of the Villages, who had to prove their worth in defending and helping local people.
.
Over the generations, Overlords turned themselves into Prince-Bishops and Guardians into local priests. They used the church law of their new God – which they wrote – to exercise complete control over the people, breeding and entrenching their offspring as their successors despite being forbidden to marry.

Little did they realise that the Sisterhood, a secret (to them) group of women, had been controlling them from the start by manipulating men’s desires. Many of them would later be described as nuns. They acted as midwives, medicine women and teachers.

Eventually all systems die. In this case the Empire absorbed them by killing some and buying off other men, and turning objectors into land slaves. All women of childbearing age were sold into sexual slavery elsewhere in the Empire. The Sisterhood came to an end because its power was broken and there were no successors. But before the last one died, MeadowDottr dictated memoires to her granddaughters – the last literate women of their race for centuries more. These don’t necessarily follow a timeline because of the way the records were stored and translated

Translator’s notes

I have imagined conversations and events to make the Chronicles of more interest to today’s readers. And some passages are conflated to better reflect the spirit of the age.
Some of the words used are similar to their modern derivatives – aers, cunny, cockstand (an erect penis)
Rape is unwanted sexual penetration. A crime then and now.
Tup, drawn from animal husbandry, is consensual transactional sex – for money, food, protection, duty
Fuck is for fun, especially that instituted by the female.
Because of the onanism laws, cumming anywhere except in a woman was illegal, so no birth control was available unless a woman agreed to open her mouth as well as her legs. Since punishments were impalement or castration for men, carried out by women including victims, or being sold into slavery – but nothing for women – men had to be careful what they did, how they treated women, and how they related to other men.
The Kynmeld is an archaic concept that the population of a country was similar to an extended family.
The mark is nowhere described explicitly but seems to have been a tattoo of a penis and testicles put on the groin in childhood by nuns – pointing upwards on boys, downwards on girls.
Because their new God was female, followers were known as Pinossists. Because a large proportion of nuns desired other females, they were often given the same label (depending on context)
