“The Hive can,” the Hive responds in their minds.
And they both walk right to the gang.

The boys whistle and laugh when they see them close.

“What do you think, how much time would it take for the Hive to take over the whole Earth?” Josh asks.
Susan calculates in her mind. “A week or two. A month maximum.”
“About that,” Josh nods. “And they we’ll finally know about the next step of the Hive’s plan.”
“Let’s just wait.”

Three weeks later, the whole Earth is the Hive nest. There are still some individuals and enclaves not assimilated yet, of course, but they do not affect anything already. It’s just the matter of time, and of short time.

“The nest is established,” the Hive tells them all in their heads. “It’s the time to propagate to other stars.”
“But how?” that’s not a single thought, but the combined thought of all the hosts. “We do not have the technology to even spread over our Solar system yet!”
“The Hive knows the technology, and the Hive will guide the hosts,” the Hive tells.

It turns out so easy to build the launchers and engines to spread the Hive eggs further over the Galaxy, actually. Humans do not understand the principles, but the devices are still easy to build. It would take centuries of travel through the interstellar void, but centuries are nothing to the Hive.

The boys and girls are gathering together in the First Acquired Town. Josh, Susan, Naomi, Dan, Joan, Roger, hundreds of them… Nobody of them would think they become like that just in a month after the initiation. They look like human gods now, so perfect, so glowing from inner light, so naked and sexy.

“A good question with so many answers. We are the Galaxy Mind. The Q or the Omega, you’ve used to call us in your ancient fantasies. The civilisations. The minds joined at the basis of the Hive. Do you want more names? We could continue.”

“Perhaps it’s not necessary. We got it. And what’s now to us?”
“Anything you want.”
“And what do we want, really?”
And the humankind pauses to think about it.
The Hive does not interfere at all. As long as it is propagated further (and this nest have completed its assignment by now) and all of their hosts are safe and happy, the Hive does not have any other desires.

The Q chuckles in their minds (it is a very rough approximation of the much more complex expression, of course). “Take your mind and your time, young ones. You have plently of them now.”
“And why is it the Hive? Why that way?” somebody asks down at Earth (there are tens of hundreds persons joined in that question together). “Why is all that taking over (thanks for the pleasure, by the way)?”
“You were too imperfect and too separated, as all of us were before, too,” the Omega answers. “That’s just a good way to unite you. The simplest way for you to join the Galaxy.”

“And what should we do next?” the humans think (except for about three quarters of them who know perfectly what they want to do right now, ohh, yeah, more, please more).
And they’ve come with a lot of ideas, of course. We people always do.
But that is another story, and it will be told another time.
